Big And Beautiful, The Qwest Center Is Headquarters For Exchange 2008
OMAHA — Exchange 2008 will be headquartered at the big, beautiful and new Qwest Center, a downtown convention center, arena and hotel complex just off the Missouri River.
The facility, completed in 2003, covers more than 422 acres, or approximately 100 city blocks. It includes a 194,000-square-foot exhibit hall, dozens of meeting rooms, and an arena that seats up to 17,000 people. The new, “four-diamond” Omaha Hilton, the official GEAPS Exchange hotel, is attached by skywalk.
There’s no question that the Center is in a great location for Exchange delegates. It’s just blocks from Omaha’s historic Old Market district, a neighborhood renowned for its restaurants, bars, brick-paved streets, horse-drawn carriages, covered sidewalks, street performers, artists and other vendors. And it’s just minutes from Omaha’s internationally known zoo, as well as Rosenblatt Stadium, several museums, and a vibrant downtown. The area is designated on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district, and borders the Omaha Rail and Commerce Historic District.
While the Qwest Center arena schedule for late February 2008 isn’t yet available, the facility is nearly always busy with concerts, sports and other activities. It’s the home of Creighton University men’s basketball team and the Omaha Mavericks professional hockey team. Billy Joel, Keith Urban, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, KISS, Aerosmith, Simon & Garfunkel, Prince, Dave Matthews Band, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Cher, Britney Spears, Alan Jackson and The Who have all performed there.
