Membership Committee Meeting

Tuesday, July 13, 10 a.m.- noon

GEAPS’ Membership Committee met July 13 during the 2010 Leadership Conference in Minneapolis. Led by chair Bill Jefferson, the meeting was well attended by committee members and GEAPS International leaders alike.

Meeting highlights included an overview of and preparation for the 2010 Member Retention Campaign, a review and update to the Annual Member Recruitment Contest rules, welcoming of new committee members, and early discussion of Student Day 2011. Read on for more information:

Member Retention Campaign

  • Chapters were assigned to MC members, who will call their assigned chapter leaders and explain the program to them and let them know when to expect the lists of non-renewing members from the GEAPS office. Committee liaisons to the chapters let GEAPS staff know whom to send the non-renew information to within each chapter.
  • As in previous years, the MC will divide the names of non-renewing Non-Chapter members and contact them via phone and e-mail to follow up.
  • The membership retention campaign will begin in early August; results must be sent to the GEAPS office via fax, e-mail or mail by Sept. 1.
  • It was agreed that staff liaison Amy McGarrigle will send weekly updated rosters of non-renewed chapter members to the chapter leaders and membership committee liaisons once the membership retention campaign is underway.
  • The website will feature a Retention Campaign Resource Page for leader use. Retention reporting forms can be filled in online and e-mailed directly to Amy at the GEAPS office, and a PDF will be available as well for those who prefer to fill out the forms and mail or fax them in.

Annual Recruitment Contest Rules

  • The committee agreed by unanimous decision that in order to keep within the spirit of the contest, the recruiter (i.e. the member whose name is listed as a new member’s sponsor) is the winner of the contest and must be noted as such in all GEAPS publications and literature.

Welcome to new committee members

  • The MC welcomed Marcus Neal of Perdue Agribusiness (Mid-Atlantic Chapter) and Bill Pickell of Lakeland Companies (Minneapolis).

Student Day 2011 preliminary planning

  • A volunteer is needed to scout the Portland, Ore., area for colleges with Agribusiness programs to gauge the demand or interest for a Student Day 2011 at the Exchange next year. Bill Pickell volunteered.
