GEAPS' International Board of Directors at its June 21, 2007 meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, approved a plan that responds to long-term operational challenges facing the organization. The plan, developed by executive officers and approved previously by GEAPS Executive Committee, moved the GEAPS staff into an association-management business, the Harrington Co., just outside Minneapolis. In August 2007, the GEAPS office in downtown Minneapolis closed permanently. On January 1, 2008, the GEAPS staff became employees of the Harrington Company.

In a letter to GEAPS International, Associate and chapter leaders dated May 18, International President Mike Myrick said the immediate need was to implement a "sustainable plan to assure that the quality and quantity of programs and services GEAPS needs and members expect can be developed and delivered with professional staff support well into the future." Myrick said implementing the plan will improve GEAPS' responsiveness and flexibility, and strengthen its ability to consistently deliver high-value programs and services in a sustainable way.

The Harrington Co. provides executive, program management, operations administration, and clerical support services to more than 20 other international, national, regional and state associations.
