Workgroups Meet at Kansas State University to Plan Next Phase of GEAPS Education
In November 2009, the GEAPS International Executive Committee approved reallocating GEAPS resources to expand continuing education and professional development programming. After months of research into industry needs, the first workgroups met last month in Manhattan, Kan., home of Kansas State University, to begin developing plans for online, on-demand education, grain operations management credentialing programs, and other components of the new GEAPS/K-State International Center for Grain Industry Operations.
Both the International Center for Grain Industry Operations Workgroup and Grain Handling Operations Management Credentialing Workgroup met Tuesday, April 13, at K-State. The ICGIO Workgroup is jointly chaired by GEAPS 2010-2011 First Vice President Mark Fedje, General Mills Inc, Minneapolis Chapter, and K-State Department of Grain Science and Industry Head Dirk Maier, Great Plains. The GHOMC Workgroup is jointly chaired by Distance Education Program Oversight Committee member Jim Jundt, Pacific Ethanol Columbia LLC, Inland Empire, and KSU Professor of Grain Science and Industry Fred Fairchild.
