Emerging and Evolving Issues
Our first session will address regulatory issues including OSHA priority issues and local/regional emphasis programs for grain handling, feed, milling and processing facilities; grain handling facilities standard; electrical standard and hazardous locations as specified by the National Electrical Code; and rolling stock fall protection. Additional discussion will focus on OSHA’s consultation program.

Safety Standards for Grain Handling Facilities
(Two parts)
Maximize your safety and that of your coworkers with best practices for grain dust fire and explosion recognition and control, grain storage in confined spaces, and lockout/tagout for all energy/power sources.
Part I – Grain Dust Fire and Explosion Hazard Recognition and Control
This portion of the session will cover contractor safety oversight, emergency response planning, preventive maintenance, housekeeping and the 2008 edition of the National Fire Protection Association 61 (Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Dust Explosions in Agricultural and Food Processing Facilities).

Environmental Quality and Responsibility
(Two parts)
Part I –Regulatory Overview and Practical Considerations
Part one of this session will comprise the areas of air, soil and water (including water sources/uses, wastewater and storm water runoff) as well as an overview of current EPA rulemaking activities including the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure rule and the New Source Performance Standard for Grain Elevators.

Part II – Stewardship
Continuing recent trends, sustainability and the “green” movement remain important issues to today’s businesses, particularly those directly linked to the environment and natural resources. Part two of the session will address “green” considerations for grain handling, processing and feed operations. Attendees will learn about key topics ranging from carbon “footprints” to LEED engineering and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Electrical Safety
The electrical safety session will include topics such as National Electrical Code standards for hazardous locations, including location definitions and common applications, equipment selection/application and installation, and maintenance. The second portion of the session will address employee qualification to work in potential arc flash hazard areas and required (?) personal protective equipment.

Transportation Safety
An overview of U.S. Department of Transportation & Federal Railroad Administration regulations as well as practical considerations such as commercial vehicle fleet operations, rail operation, barge operation and rolling stock fall protection. Additional topics will include truck staging and dock operations, hazardous materials, and transportation worker identification control.

Facility Security – Food and Feed Defense
Our final session will provide useful information in the area of facility security. The session will begin with an overview of USCG, DHS, FDA and USDA regulations and practical considerations, and other session topics will include facility security vulnerability assessment and control; threat “agents,” both chemical and biological; facility, inventory and transportation security; and the NFGA/GEAPS facility security Web site.
