One noticeable change this year is that professional students who take GEAPS/Kansas State distance education courses may apply for the Harold Reese Memorial Scholarship. The GEAPS International Executive Committee has set a total funding allocation of $3,000 for the Kaufmann and Reese scholarships for 2012. For additional information, contact Chuck House; (952) 928-4640, chuck@geaps.com.
Expanding the eligibility is intended to help young people pursue a larger variety of educational opportunities in preparation for careers in grain operations or related fields, and to help grow the GEAPS/K-State program.
Next Generation: The Harold Reese Memorial Scholarship is open to students interested in studying grain handling operations in a post-secondary program, in addition to students enrolled in GEAPS/Kansas State courses. It is intended to promote interest in studying grain-handling operations. Both GEAPS members and non-members are invited to apply. The scholarship is named for former GEAPS President and Member of Distinction Harold Reese.
Professional Development for Industry Employees: The Henry H. Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship provides funding to full-time agri-business professionals who want to study a foreign language to enhance their careers. The scholarship will apply to tuition, books and fees only, at accredited institutions. Students attending non-U.S. institutions may apply if their college or university's language program is formally affiliated with an accredited U.S. school.
The deadline to apply for scholarships is June 1. For additional information, contact Chuck House at (952) 928-4640 or chuck@geaps.com.
Student Day
GEAPS Exchange has a special Student Day program just for you to participate in the best conference in the industry and get experience directly from GEAPS leaders. To learn more about GEAPS Exchange, click here. While Student Day for Exchange 2013 in Louisville is still in the planning stages, the 2012 event was a big success.
Student Day 2012 provided students planning to enter the field of agribusiness with the opportunity to participate in the Exchange through a program tailored to their interests and needs. Through a combination of special presentations and one-on-one interaction, students learned about issues currently facing the world of grain operations and connect with established industry professionals.
Student Day includes two components. First, professionals in various grain operations fields will address students regarding topics of interest in the agribusiness world today. These topics have been recommended to GEAPS by local students and faculty from nearby colleges. Following the presentations, member volunteers will lead students on individual or small-group tours of the Exchange Expo.
Attendance at Student Day also entitles students (and accompanying faculty members) to attend all education programs and the Expo Hall during the conference. Participating students will also become complimentary Student members of GEAPS for the duration of their schooling plus one year past their graduation date—GEAPS' way of investing in the future of the industry.
