Drying Grain for Quality, Safety, and Profit: What Operators Need to Get Right Every Time
September 2, 2026
12:00 p.m. CDT
Grain drying is one of the most critical steps in preserving grain quality, maintaining safe storage conditions, and protecting profitability. Drying decisions made during harvest can have lasting impacts on grain quality, energy costs, storage life, and operational efficiency. This webinar explores the key principles of effective grain drying, from managing moisture variability and optimizing dryer performance to avoiding quality loss and preparing grain for long-term storage. Attendees will gain practical insights they can apply to improve drying operations, reduce risk, and maximize the value of every bushel.
Key Takeaways:
- Moisture Management Fundamentals
Understanding target moisture levels for different crops and storage durations, managing variable incoming grain, and balancing drying efficiency with grain quality. - Optimizing Dryer Performance and Energy Efficiency
Identifying opportunities to improve airflow, burner performance, and dryer settings to reduce energy consumption while maintaining consistent drying results. - Protecting Grain Quality During Drying
Examining how drying temperature, retention time, and overdrying can contribute to stress cracks, shrink loss, and reduced grain value—and how to avoid these common pitfalls. - Preparing Grain for Safe Storage
Exploring the relationship between drying, cooling, and aeration to minimize moisture migration, mold development, insect activity, and spoilage throughout the storage season. - Reducing Operational Risk Through Best Practices
Reviewing common operational challenges, routine maintenance considerations, and dryer safety practices that help improve reliability, reduce downtime, and lower the risk of fires during harvest.
