IOMSA Golden Ticket

The IOMSA Golden Ticket supports industry professionals who are looking to improve their workplace skills and knowledge through attendance at GEAPS Exchange.

Applicants must be current employees of a grain processing facility.

The Golden Ticket provides for full Exchange registration fees as well as a $500 travel stipend.

This program is named for the International Oil Mill Superintendents Association which existed from 1905 to 2023 with a mission to promote the education, happiness and general well-being of its members, and thereby to further the efficiency and prosperity of the oil mill industry.

Winners will be selected and notified in January and travel stipends handed out onsite at Exchange.

The presentation will discuss the basics of oilseed processing including the two major types of extraction in use in North America coupled with soybean and canola statistics i.e. acreages and new plants coming online. An overview will also be given of the similarities between elevator and processing safety and regulations. There also will be discussions on the importance of grain quality in oilseed processing, the products from oilseed processing, and their uses along with future demand. Locations of newly commissioned and expected commissioning’s will be included.

This presentation will take the basics of oilseed processing discussed in “Oilseed Processing – A Crushing Perspective” from Monday morning, and break it down into more detail, simplifying the science behind the madness.

Topics covered will include the different steps of the preparation process such as cleaning, cracking, flaking, grinding etc. as well as the extraction process including distillation and solvent recovery, explaining how each step affects the end quality and yields of the products. We will also cover the unique safety and environmental challenges of a soybean crush plant.
